U-707 Patrol 2 : 29/11/1940

29th November 1940
7:17pm 29th November 1940 - we have arrived at our patrol zone. The weather remains calm with good visibility and low winds. We will remain in this grid for 48 hours before moving northward to extend our patrol into grid BF11.
At 12:30am we received a contact report. A single merchant on an ENE course at medium speed located 126km West of our current position. After some calculations, I found we could intercept the merchants course in a little under 4 hours, assuming it remain on its ENE course during that time.

The interception was successful and the merchant came into periscope view at about 5am, it was identified as an enemy Coastal Freighter weighing in at approximately 1811 GRT. It wasn't a big target but was still a good start to this patrol. We set up for a 90 degree shot and waited, 2 Torpedo's (G7a) were fired on a 2 degree spread and both hit the target. The merchant immediately burst into a huge fireball and sunk within minutes.
