9:30pm 19th December 1940 - Hydrophone contact at 7:58pm, merchant travelling westward at medium speed. Was another easy intercept as its course passed less than a thousand metres in front of our boat. All that was required was to submerge, move a little into position and wait for the target to arrive. One G7e was launched at a position just forward of the merchants funnel, at 9:05pm the torpedo struck. It was quite an explosion to behold, the target ship was relatively small and was almost lifted right out of the water by the force of the blast. 9 Minutes later the merchant was under the water.
